Sainte-Anne Chapel Toulouse

Organ details

History

The chapel of Sainte-Anne, adjoining the cathedral of Saint-Étienne, is home to an Italian organ built in 1980 by the organbuilders Anselmi and Luciano Tamburini. This instrument, which completes the collection of instruments from Toulouse in terms of style, allows us to hear Girolamo Frescobaldi, Michelangelo Rossi, Bernardo Pasquini, Domenico Zipoli and many other Italian composers, with their typical Italian sounds. In 1980, a private donation enabled the Friends of St Stephen's Cathedral Organ to purchase a new instrument. The decision to install an Italian organ in the chapel of Sainte-Anne was doubly motivated. Firstly, the architecture of the building, built in the second half of the 19th century, is Italianate. Secondly, it was in keeping with the organ-building policy in Toulouse, which, alongside the restoration of old instruments, was encouraging the construction of new, distinctive instruments to serve a specific repertoire.
