History

New organ: Göteborg Organ Art Center, 2000

The aim of the North German Organ Research Project has been to reconstruct, on a scientific basis, a 17th-century North German organ in the style of Arp Schnitger (1648-1719). Within the project, methods of the ancient organ building handicraft have been reconstructed. This reconstruction has been possible through the combination of extensive research on pipe material, acoustics and air flow dynamics, and through experimentation and development of the handicraft in the organ research workshop. The façade of the organ has been modeled after the schnitger organ in Lübeck Cathedral (1699). (This organ was destroyed during World War II.)
