The second largest of Freiberg's organs in the Petrikirche (St Peter's Church) with 32 stops shows though it has only two manuals-already quite a few features of Silbermann's important late works (Frauenkirche Dresden, Johanniskirche Zittau, Katholische Hofkirche Dresden). The dignity of sound which was increased by Prinzipal and Manualposaune (Fagott) 16' in the Hauptwerk as well as by the 32'-base in pedal is especially characteristic.
Between 1893 and 1895 the architecture of the building was changed fundamentally. Subsequently, the organ was modified tonally and technically, especially by tuning the instrument to its current pitch, by adding the tone C major and a third manual with pneumatic action (Jehmlich of Dresden). In 1993, the fïrst part of an extensive restoration (Jehmlich) followed former changes that had already partially aimed at restoring the original condition. The reestablishment of the original temperament and pitch belong to the work still to come.
The organ is actually under restoration. More information>>>>
