PER FRIDTJOV BONAKSEN
Per Fridtjov Bonsaksen is cathedral organist and choirmaster at Nidaros Cathedral.
After graduating in church music from the Music Conservatory in Trondheim, he studied organ with professor Michael Schneider and harpsichord with prof. Hugo Ruf in Cologne, and later organ with prof. Hans Haselböck in Vienna, where he achieved his Soloist Diploma at Staatliche Hochschule für Musik. He has also studied orchestra conduction in Hamburg.
Since 1976 Bonsaksen has headed the church music at Nidaros Cathedral, within lithurgy as well as concert activities. He regularly gives organ recitals, choir and chamber music concerts and arranges choir workshops, baroque organ festivals and seminars. There are regular broadcastings of services and concerts on Norwegian radio and TV. He has an international career as concert organist, and has made several recordings. He works as consultant for organ building and restoration, and was instrumental in having the baroque Wagner organ in the Nidaros Cathedral restored.
Bonsaksen has taught organ and other church music disciplines at the Dept. of Music, Univ. of Trondheim throughout the years and was also ass. professor in church music at the Music Conservatory of Stavanger during the period 2001-2003.
He is appointed knight of the order of St. Olav for his contributions within church music in Norway.
